The most entertaining and hysterical documentary
I've seen in a long long time!
| I cannot recommend this enough. As a fan of such films as She Freak, Blood Feast, Ilsa-She Wolf of the SS, Space Thing, The Acid Eaters, The Defilers and 2000 Maniacs, it was more than a delight to watch and meet the two Goodfellas of Sleaze and see them reminisce and give us insight into their lives and careers! This new DVD Documentary called 'Mau Mau Sex Sex' gives us an 80-minute interview filled with film clips and a look into the brains and insanity known as David F. Friedman and Dan Sonney. Two producers who exploited anything and everything if they thought it would make a dime. These two old codgers never thought their films would be seen again, unless they retitled and re-released them themselves! With the world of DVD and companies like Something Weird Video, they now have a huge fanbase and this film will tell you why! This is more than an introduction into the world of exploitation. This is the film that should be shown to every film class in the world. The text, the bible, the film of sex and sleaze of a bygone era! The film starts out with an education of who the two gentlemen are and also gives a really nice look into the birth of exploitation. Heck, one of their own fathers was a big part of the traveling circuit of exploitation films that started out in the beginning. The days when exploitation was sold as educational films! Interspersed between musings from Friedman and Sonney is Frank Henenlotter (Basket Case, Brain Damage) giving a hysterical account why these films are so great or bad to begin with. We meet their families and friends as they tell us about their day-to-day routines as retired businessmen. Incredible as I had no idea that Friedman still owns and runs a traveling Carny! Mike Vraney (SWV) also makes an appearance towards the end of the film just to show both of them that there are still some of us out there that love these films. Find out how these movies saw the light of day. Discover the troubles and tribulations to make it all work and laugh out loud as they discuss their prostates! They flip each other a ton of B.S. and still remain close friends and adore their wives. Yes, I hate to admit, amongst all the shots of nudists on trampolines, tongue being removed from a playboy playmate's mouth, freaks and spankings, I found myself with tears in my eyes. This is just as heartwarming as it is hysterical. We can only hope that we'll have this sort of love for life, celebration of accomplishments and no regrets when we are 84 years old. A beautiful homage to an era that needs to return to the dingy inner-city theaters! The DVD is filled with a ton of extras, film trailers courtesy of SWV, a great photo album of poster art, promotional goodies and personal photographs, great audio commentaries from Sonney and Friedman as well as director Ted Bonnitt and writer Eddie Muller, soundtrack samples (soundtrack cd is also available) and extensive biographies and filmographies that put the IMDB to shame. One of the best DVD releases thus far. Highly recommended! |
